    Niu, Turvy Advance to Singles Quarterfinals at ITA Midwest Regionals

    CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Belinda Niu and Kate Turvy each advanced on to the quarterfinal round of the singles draw with victories on Sunday at the ITA Midwest Regionals hosted by the University of Illinois.

    Turvy, who is seeded second, had no trouble with Jenny Kellner from Notre Dame, cruising to a 6-1, 6-2 victory. She'll face 11th-seeded Patricia Fargas of DePaul in Monday's quarterfinal round.

    Meanwhile, Niu, the No. 9 seed, posted a straight-set win over fourth-seeded Melissa Kopinski of Illinois, winning 6-4, 7-6 (3). She'll also face an opponent from DePaul on Monday as she'll square off against eighth-seeded Jasmin Kling.

    In doubles action, the top-seeded team of Linda Abu Mushrefova and Nida Hamilton advanced to the semifinals with an 8-6 win over Bektas/Nguyen from Michigan but fell just short of a berth in the championship match, falling 8-5 to fourth-seeded Julie Sabacinski/Britney Sanders from Notre Dame.

    The eighth-seeded duo of Veronica Corning and Niu went toe to toe with the second-seeded team of Rachael White/Melissa Kopinski in the quarterfinals but came up just short, falling 9-8 (5).
