EVANSTON, Ill. -
Saturday's competition at the Wildcat Invitational saw the final two rounds of doubles action being played. All three of Northwestern's duos won their opening match of the day to advance to the championship match.
Linda Abu Mushrefova and Nida Hamilton, who won their doubles draw at the Roberta Alison Fall Classic at the University of Alabama last weekend, duplicated their feat on Saturday. The pair opened the day with an 8-2 victory over the Cutura/Newmann team from DePaul. The Wildcat duo then knocked off Brahane/Wofford 8-3 in the title match of their draw.
Kate Turvy and Alicia Barnett won their first match of the day, blanking Pastunink/Sujashvili from Western Michigan, 8-0. On the other side of the bracket, Belinda Niu and Anna Livadaru topped the Lawson/Mitrea team from DePaul, 8-2.
Rather than have the two Northwestern teams square off against one another, both duos faced a team from another school. Turvy and Barnett went on to fall to the Iowa team of Zordani/Seaborne 8-5, while Niu/Livadaru was handed an 8-4 defeat at the hands of Cutura/Fargas from DePaul.
The final round of singles play is slated to begin at 9 a.m. Sunday, most likely indoors at the Combe Tennis Center.
