BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Third-seeded Northwestern battled past host and sixth-seeded Indiana for a 4-0 win in a quarterfinal round matchup at the 2013 Big Ten Women's Tennis Tournament Friday afternoon.

With the win, the Wildcats advance to take on second-seeded Nebraska in Saturday's semifinal round. The Cornhuskers defeated 10th-seeded Minnesota on Friday to move on in the tournament. Nebraska won the regular-season matchup with Northwestern 4-3 in Lincoln March 10.

Friday's contest was NU's second consecutive against the Hoosiers who advanced with a 4-0 win over Wisconsin in Thursday's opening round. Northwestern and Indiana had squared off in the regular-season finale for both teams in Evanston on Sunday. The 'Cats rolled to a 6-1 win in that meeting, but the Hoosiers put forth a tough challenge on Friday.

Northwestern had to work hard to earn the doubles point as the Wildcats lost at No. 1 but got an 8-3 victory from the red-hot team of Alicia Barnett and Veronica Corning at No. 2 and a narrow 8-6 win by Belinda Niu and Kate Turvy at No. 3. For Barnett and Corning, it was their ninth-straight victory.

NU's lead grew to 2-0 thanks to Turvy as she continued to have her way with Katie Klyczek. After surrendering just one game to Klyczek on Sunday, the first-team All-Big Ten selection notched a 6-3, 6-1 win at the No. 2 spot.

The Hoosiers won a set at Nos. 1, 3, 4, 5 and 6 as they put themselves in a position to potentially spring the upset. At No. 4, Linda Abu Mushrefova rolled to a 6-0 first-set win before Alecia Kauss battled back to take the second set 6-3. However, Mushrefova bounced back to take the decisive third set 6-3, increasing the Wildcats' match lead to 3-0.

With Indiana closing in on a win at No. 1 and the matches at Nos. 3 and 5 tight in the third set, Nida Hamilton squelched any thoughts the Hoosiers might have of a comeback by finishing off her victory over Jithmie Jayawickrema at No. 6 by a score of 3-6, 6-2, 6-0.
