    MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Northwestern women's tennis team wrapped up the 2014 regular season with a 7-0 shutout of Minnesota on Sunday. NU finishes with a 10-1 record in Big Ten play, securing a second-place finish in the conference. The `Cats will receive a first round bye in the Big Ten tournament.

    For the second straight day, the Wildcats cruised through doubles play and had only one singles match go to a third set.

    Veronica Corning and Alicia Barnett started the afternoon with an 8-1 win over Natallia Pintusava and Julia Courter at the first doubles spot. Northwestern earned the match's first point when Belinda Niu and Brooke Rischbieth eased to an 8-2 victory over Yuliana Umanets and Kendall Heitzner. Niu and Rischbieth combined to go a perfect 7-0 in conference play this season.

    NU provided more of the same in singles. Belinda Niu did not allow Jessika Mozia to even get on the board against her, winning the match 6-0, 6-0. Niu finishes her final regular season with a 15-3 overall record and a 9-1 mark in conference play. Freshman Jillian Rooney, playing in the No. 6 position, took down Paula Rincon Otero by a 6-3, 6-2 score.

    Lok Sze Leung clinched the win for the Wildcats with a 6-4, 6-2 victory at No. 5 over Maja Vujic.

    Sophomore Alicia Barnett completed a perfect conference slate with her win on Sunday. Barnett beat Aria Lambert, 6-4, 6-3, to finish with a 10-0 mark in the Big Ten.

    Northwestern ensured a shutout with wins by Manon Peri at No. 4 and Veronica Corning at No. 1. Peri put together a 9-1 campaign in her first season with the Wildcats.

    The 2014 Big Ten tournament wil be hosted by Northwestern at the Vandy Christie Tennis Center. Action is set to get underway Thursday morning at 10 a.m. The tournament will conclude on Sunday with the conference championship. Complete information on the tournament can be found here.
