    No. 9 Northwestern Remains Perfect In Big Ten With 5-2 Win Over No. 33 Iowa

    EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern's ninth-ranked women's tennis team took all three doubles matches before notching four singles wins en route to a 5-2 win over No. 33 Iowa Sunday afternoon. The Wildcats now stand as the only undefeated team in conference play as they pushed their Big Ten record to 7-0.

    Northwestern quickly took a 1-0 lead by sweeping the doubles competition.

    Georgia Rose (Mettawa, Ill./North Shore Country Day) and Feriel Esseghir (Sarasota, Fla./Brickhouse Academy) were the first Wildcat pair to finish as they beat Hillary Mintz and Kayla Berry 8-4 at No. 2 doubles. The duo is now 9-1 this year at the No. 2 doubles position.

    Nazlie Ghazal (Temecula, Calif./Chaparral) and Jamie Peisel (Savannah, Ga./Savannah Country Day) then clinched the doubles point for the 'Cats with an 8-3 victory over Milica Veselinovic and Krissy Dowlin at No. 3. The two are now 19-5 overall this year.

    The Wildcats' 10th-ranked team of Cristelle Grier (Epsom, England/Putney) and Alexis Prousis (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) completed the doubles sweep for NU with an 8-3 win over Iowa's Meg Racette and Jacqueline Lee at No. 1 doubles.

    The 'Cats jumped out to a 3-0 lead with two wins to begin singles play.

    Esseghir improved her dual record to 11-6 this season when she beat Merel Beelen 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5 singles.

    Ghazal then made it 3-0 as she took her 11th-consecutive singles match. Ghazal topped Dowlin 6-0, 6-2 at No. 6.

    After Veselinovic beat NU's 24th-ranked Prousis 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3, No. 9 Grier clinched the match for Northwestern with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Mintz at No. 2.

    No. 44 Rose took her 23rd-straight singles match with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Racette at No. 1. Rose now stands at 19-0 in dual play this season and is 4-0 at the No. 1 spot.



    With the match already decided, Lee took a third-set tiebreaker to beat Peisel at No. 4 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (8).

    With the win, Northwestern improves to 15-4 this season, 7-0 in Big Ten play.

    Northwestern resumes play with a pair of conference road matches next weekend. The 'Cats face Illinois at noon Saturday, April 15, before taking on Purdue at 11 a.m. Sunday, April 16.
