    EVANSTON, Ill. - Veronica Corning and Alicia Barnett teamed up to knock off the 2nd-ranked doubles team in the country, and Northwestern rolled to a 7-0 victory over Georgia Tech Friday night at the Combe Tennis Center.

    Corning and Barnett, ranked No. 47, defeated Kendal Woodard and Megan Kurey 8-3 to clinch the ever-important doubles point for the `Cats. NU is 8-0 when it wins the first point of the match. 

    Belinda Niu and Manon Peri started the night with a dominant 8-0 shutout of Rasheeda McAdoo and Alexa Anton-Ohlmeyer at No. 3 before the Corning and Barnett win at No. 1 that ultimately gave NU the early 1-0 lead.

    Lok Sze Leung started singles play with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6 over Anton-Ohlmeyer. Leung snapped a two-match losing streak with the win. Niu followed with a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 2 over Woodard to extend her winning streak to 13 straight matches. Niu is 9-0 in the dual season. Corning clinched the overall match for the Wildcats with a 6-2, 7-5 victory at No. 1 over Natasha Prokhnevska.

    With the team win already in hand, Barnett fought her way to a win at No. 3 over Kurey. Barnett took the first set handily, 6-2, before winning the second 7-6 (4). After a 1-5 start to the season, she has now won four in a row. Seconds later, Nida Hamilton locked up victory at No. 5, 6-1, 7-5, over Muriel Wacker. Hamilton remains undefeated, moving to 6-0 with the win. Playing at No. 4, Peri overcame a first set loss, winning the second and forcing a third set super-breaker. Peri worked her way to a 10-7 victory in the breaker to give NU a 7-0 shutout of the Yellow Jackets.

    Northwestern will embark on a mid-week road trip to the Tar Heel State, matching up against No. 10 North Carolina on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. The `Cats will then face the nation's top-ranked team in Duke on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
