    Results

    EVANSTON, Ill. -- No. 1 Northwestern lost only one set all evening and clinched its sixth-straight match with a 7-0 sweep of the Wisconsin Badgers. The 'Cats improve to 12-1 on the season and remain unbeaten in Big Ten play at 3-0.

    A convincing sweep of the doubles point from Wisconsin gave the Wildcats an early 1-0 match lead. After going down 1-0 early at No. 1, Georgia Rose (Mettawa, Ill./North Shore Country Day) and Lauren Lui (Houston, Texas/Kinkaid) never looked back, winning the match 8-3.

    At No. 2, Samantha Murray (Altrincham, England/Altrincham Grammar) and Suzie Matzenauer (Tacoma, Wash./Bellarmine) looked exceptional in their 8-2 win over the Badgers. At No. 1 Alexis Conill (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Cardinal Gibbons) and Maria Mosolova (Moscow, Russia/No.204) dominated from the start and took the match handedly, 8-1.

    Northwestern took a 2-0 lead at No. 6 when Matzenauer won her 20th consecutive decision, 6-2, 6-1. A short time later the Wildcats found themselves up 3-0 after Nazlie Ghazal (Temecula, Calif./Chaparral) defeated Chelsea Nasslock 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5.

    Samantha Murray clinched the match for the 'Cats with her decisive 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 3, putting Northwestern up 4-0. Sixth-ranked singles player Georgia Rose put Northwestern up 5-0 and continued to impress with her 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 2, making her 8-1 overall from the position this year.

     

     

    The match of the day was at No. 1, where fourth-ranked Maria Mosolova found herself in a hole early. After losing the first set 6-4, Mosolova took the second set 6-0, forcing a match tiebreaker in which she took the match 1-0 (5) and gave Northwestern a 6-0 lead for the day.

    At No. 5, Lauren Lui produced another exciting match for the fans, pulling out the victory 7-6 (5), 7-5 to complete the 7-0 match sweep.

    Northwestern hosts Harvard when it returns to action at 11 a.m. on Sunday, March 9. The 'Cats own a 9-1 all-time record against the Crimson.
