CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - After knocking off two top-10 ranked teams at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships to advance to the semifinal round, Northwestern ran into a UCLA team that has rolled through the competition this weekend. The fifth-ranked Bruins overmatched the No. 16 Wildcats, 4-0.

UCLA grabbed the doubles point from the `Cats by winning the No. 1 and No. 2 matches. Veronica Corning and Alicia Barnett faced the No. 1 ranked doubles tandem in the country on Sunday. Robin Anderson and Jennifer Brady were able to defeat Corning and Barnett 6-3. At No. 2 doubles, Maddie Lipp and Nida Hamilton lost by the same margin to Kyle McPhillips and Catherine Harrison.

Playing at No. 1 singles, Veronica Corning is no stranger to highly ranked opponents, but on Sunday, Corning matched up with the No. 1 ranked singles player in the country, Robin Anderson. Corning played a quality match but ultimately fell to Anderson, 7-6 (3), 6-4.

Alicia Barnett was paired against No. 24 Jennifer Brady, and Brady won in straight sets 6-3, 6-2. Maddie Lipp was in the singles lineup again on Sunday and played a tight first set against Kaitlin Ray but was ultimately defeated 7-6 (6), 6-1.

At No. 2 singles, Belinda Niu faced No. 9 ranked Chanelle Van Nguyen. Although the match was abandoned when UCLA clinched the winning point, Niu led the ninth-ranked player in the nation deep into the third set.

Despite the loss, Northwestern played impressive tennis over the weekend. On Friday, the Wildcats took down No. 7 Texas A&M, 4-3. In Saturday's quarterfinal round, NU upset the second-ranked Florida Gators, 4-2.

Northwestern continues their string of matches against highly ranked opponents when they travel to the Lone Star state to face No. 17 Texas on Saturday, Feb. 15 and No. 19 Baylor on Sunday, Feb. 16.
