EVANSTON, Ill. - No. 5 Northwestern swept every match - doubles and singles - to beat DePaul 7-0 Wednesday night at the Combe Tennis Center and start the season 1-0. Four `Cats posted victories in both singles and doubles, as Northwestern improved to 7-0 all-time against the Blue Demons.

Senior Kristi Roemer (Piedmont, Calif./Piedmont) and junior Feriel Esseghir (Sarasota, Fla./Brickhouse Academy) recorded the Wildcats' first victory of the day with an 8-2 victory over Murisic and Mihaldinec in doubles.

Freshman Audra Cohen (Plantation, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) and junior Cristelle Grier (Epsom, England/Putney) - the No. 1 ranked doubles team in the nation - followed by dispatching Parashkevova and Csordas 8-3 and clinching the Wildcats one team point from the doubles competition.

Sophomore Alexis Prousis (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) and graduate student Valerie Vladea (Tiffin, Iowa/Burlington Central) completed the sweep with an 8-4 win over Murisic and Mihaldinec.

The `Cats did not allow their Chicago-area rival any breathing room once singles picked up, running away with all six matches in straight sets.

Cohen, Grier, Prousis and Vladea all recorded singles victories as well. Prousis provided the clincher against Gergana Ganeva, 6-4, 6-2.

Andrea Yung (San Marino, Calif./San Marino) recorded the first victory of her senior year at the No. 6 position against Mihaldinec, winning 6-3, 6-1. Freshman Alexis Conill (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla./Cardinal Gibbons) put the finishing touches on the dual with her 6-4, 6-3 victory over Murisic.

Northwestern is next in action Saturday, Jan. 29 at Texas A&M and will play another home match until February 11 against William & Mary.
