    Katherine Nasser Earns Bid to NCAA Singles Championship

    Women's tennis sophomore will travel to Notre Dame.

    EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern sophomore Katherine Nasser (Arlington Heights, Ill./John Hersey) earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Singles Championship, which will be held on May 25-29, at the University of Notre Dame. The individual championship consists of 64 singles players and 32 doubles teams. Nasser, who is making her first appearance in the NCAA Singles Championship, is the first NU NCAA qualifier since 1990 when the doubles team of Lindsay Matthews and Wendy Nelson earned a bid.

    Nasser and freshman Colleen Cheng (Hillsborough, Calif./Burlingame) are second alternates for the doubles competition.

    Nasser, who is ranked No. 59 nationally, has a 24-17 overall record and a 9-1 Big Ten mark at No. 1 singles. She has beaten four players that have been ranked in the top 70, including Karoline Borgersen of Pepperdine and Elisa Penalvo of Marquette who were both ranked No. 21. Nasser has teamed with freshman Colleen Cheng at No. 1 doubles to notch a 9-6 overall record and a 5-2 mark in the conference.
