EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern head diving coach Alik Sarkisian has been named the head coach and team leader for USA Diving at the 2013 World University Games July 6-17 in Kazan, Russia.

Sarkisian will coach a squad of 12 divers from 10 different Universities who were selected based on results from the World Championship and World University Games Trials held May 15-20 in Tallahasee, Fla.

Sarkisian arrived at Northwestern in 2006-07 already with a wealth of international coaching experience. He served as the USSR National Team coach from 1980-90 before becoming the National Team coach in his native Armenia from 1991-93 and again for the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games.

He previously served USA Diving as the head coach for the 2003 and 2005 Pan-Am Games, as the head coach for Team USA at the 2008 Grand Prix meet in Moscow, Russia, and as a selector and judge at the 2008 Olympic Trials ahead of the Beijing Games.
