EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern senior Madeleine Klichowski (Chicago, Ill./Loyola Academy) and juniors Ellen Anderson (Montgomery Village, Md./Gaithersburg) and Julianne Kurke (Atlanta, Ga./Parkview) have been named captains for the 2014-15 season as chosen by the team and coaching staff.

Klichowski is a top backstroker for NU, posting top times in the 100 back and 200 back for the ‘Cats in 2013-14. She swam in both events in addition to the 200 yard IM at the Big Ten Championships this season. Klichowski is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten award winner, earning the award in her first year of eligibility for the nomination.

Anderson was named Academic All-Big Ten in her first year eligible for the award. A top freestyler for the ‘Cats, Anderson posted NU’s second best times in both the 1,000 free and 1,650 free. A versatile long distance swimmer, Anderson also recorded one of the team’s top times in the 500 free, shaving her time to post a season best at the Big Ten Championships. Also at the Big Ten Championships, Anderson led off NU’s top 800 free relay time, which posted its fastest time of the season at 7:18.16.

Kurke had a strong showing in the Big Ten Championships in Minneapolis, Minn. this season, posting NCAA “B” Cut times and advancing to earn extra swims in the consolation finals of the 100 breast and 200 breast. She led the ‘Cats with the fastest times in each category. Kurke also swam on NU’s top relay teams in the 200 medley and 400 medley relay teams, which posted season best times at the Big Ten Championships. Kurke was named Academic All-Big Ten in her first year eligible for the award.

All three swimmers were selected captains for the first time in their career.

Northwestern is coming off its third consecutive trip to the NCAA Championships in a year where the Wildcats had 16 Academic All-Big Ten selections, which led all winter sports at Northwestern.
