EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern head coach Jimmy Tierney announced today (May 3) the addition of seven-time All-American Anna Miller as an assistant coach with the Wildcats women's swimming and diving program.

"I am thrilled to welcome Anna Miller to the Wildcats Swimming and Diving family," Tierney said. "Anna will bring a tremendous skill set to NU, one that she has honed as an athlete and a professional. She has a great perspective on what it takes to develop a champion in the pool while also facing the challenges of excelling in the classroom and in the community at a wonderful institution like Northwestern."

Miller is a 2009 graduate of Georgia where she was a member of both the 2005 NCAA championship squad and the 2006 SEC championship team while competing from 2004-08. A two-time Olympic Trials qualifier and team captain as a senior in 2008, Miller earned Academic honors in all four of her collegiate seasons, as well.

"I am very excited to have the opportunity to become a part of the Northwestern swimming family," Miller said. "I feel so fortunate to be joining Jimmy and the program he has built throughout the years at an institution as academically prestigious as Northwestern. I could not be more inspired by the goals of the young women on the team, and I am grateful for the chance to help them in their quest to lift this program to national prominence once again."

Miller spent the summer of 2011 as the national team intern with USA Swimming, assisting with all duties performed by the High Performance Team including filming, race analysis and coach/athlete support.

"Anna is a great leader, as evidenced during her career at powerhouse Georgia," Tierney said. "Her time spent in the USA High Performance Team internship will prove invaluable to our program."

After her summer with USA Swimming, Miller joined another national power, Virginia, from 2011-13 as an assistant coach working primarily with the middle distance freestylers, stroke and individual medley swimmers in addition to assisting in recruiting efforts.

A native of Johnson City, Tenn., Miller served the 2010-11 school year in two different roles at her alma mater. She spent the year as a graduate assistant with Georgia's CHAMPS/Life Skills program, which focuses on the development of student-athletes within the university environment. In that role, Miller monitored study hall and assisted in organizing community service events. She also served as an administrative assistant with the Bulldog swimming and diving program during the spring semester, helping with home swim meets, financial reporting and camper registration for Georgia's summer camps.
