2012 NCAA Championships Psych Sheet
EVANSTON, Ill. -- Two Wildcats have earned berths in the 2012 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships March 15-17 in Auburn, Ala., where they will represent Northwestern in four separate events.
Senior Jenny Wilson (Bethesda, Md./Sidwell Friends School) qualified as the 17th seed in the 100 breast and the 19th seed in the 200 breast while junior Taylor Reynolds (St. Louis, Mo./Webster) is in as the 24th seed in the 50 free and the 43rd seed in the 100 free. The trip is the first to the NCAA Championships for both swimmers.
Reynolds will swim the 50 free Thursday, Wilson will compete in the 100 breast Friday and both swimmers will be in action in their other events on Saturday. For live results and live video, click on the links in the chart at the top of this page.
Wilson broke a 13-year-old school record in the 200 breast at the Big Ten Championships to finish in fifth place after a career-best time in the 100 breast was good for a sixth-place finish. Wilson has been on track for the NCAA Championships all season long, earning five total NCAA `B' provisional qualifying times during breaststroke in-season swims.
Reynolds took a decidedly different path to her first NCAA Championships berth, missing the majority of the fall schedule with an injury. Once she returned, furious training and work enabled her to first swim a personal-best 22.46 in a 50 free time trial at the Big Ten Championships. She further lowered that to 22.42 at the Boiler-Make-It meet last weekend. In the 100 free, Reynolds qualified for the championship final, placing sixth overall.
Northwestern has qualified a representative for the NCAA Championships under head coach Jimmy Tierney in every year of his 18-year tenure with the exception of the 2011 season. NU finished in the top-15 in the nation on 10 of those occasions with its best recent finish coming via a 19th-place effort in 2008, the same year Tierney won Big Ten Coach of the Year honors.
