EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern will host No. 10 Michigan at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, at the Norris Aquatics Center in the final dual meet of the 2006-07 schedule. The meet will be streamed live on NUsports.com via All-Access!
The Wildcats are coming off a pair of dual meet wins last weekend, defeating both Marshall and Ohio State on back-to-back days in Columbus, Ohio, to improve their record to 3-5 on the year. Northwestern's meet against Michigan will mark its sixth -- out of nine duals this year -- against a team ranked in the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) poll at some point this season.
Building in its push toward the Big Ten and NCAA Championships, the Wildcats already have earned 16 NCAA 'B' cuts in nine different individual events and the 200 free relay. Showcasing NU's depth in all of the freestyle distances, multiple 'Cats have 'B' standard performances in all five of the free events, while at least one 'B' cut has been earned in every stroke this season.
Freshman Kassia Shishkoff (Raleigh, N.C./St. David's School) leads the way for Northwestern with four 'B' times, earning them in the 200 free, 500 free, 1,650 free and the 400 IM.
Junior Andrea Hupman (Lawrenceville, Ga./Brookwood) and freshman Emily Wong (Nepean, Ontario/St. Joseph's) -- NU's 1-2 punch in the sprint free events -- both have 'B' standards in the 50, 100 and 200 freestyle races.
Freshman Jenn Kocsis (Omaha, Neb./Marian) has come on strong of late in the distance free events, earning 'B' times in the 500 and 1,650.
Junior Jessie Bailis (Omaha, Neb./Millard North) has a 'B' time in the 100 breast, freshman Genny Szymanski (Haines, Alaska/Haines) earned one in the 200 back and freshman Rachel Rys (Goleta, Calif./Dos Pueblos) owns a 'B' cut in the 200 fly.
Freshmen own 11 of the 15 individual NCAA 'B' cuts the Wildcats have earned so far this season.
