    Northwestern Faces Marshall, Ohio State in Dual Meets this Weekend

    EVANSTON, Ill. -- With the Big Ten Championships less than a month away, Northwestern hits the road for Columbus, Ohio, this weekend. The Wildcats first will face Marshall at 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 12, in Columbus before taking on Ohio State at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13.

    Northwestern is coming off a loss to No. 16 Tennessee in a meet in which the Wildcats swam very well, earning a total of nine NCAA 'B' cuts. Freshman Kassia Shishkoff (Raleigh, N.C./St. David's School) led the way with four, garnering herself Big Ten and Collegeswimming.com Swimmer of the Week honors.

    Shishkoff currently is ranked in the top 25 in the nation in three different events. She is eighth in the 1000 free, 11th in the 1,650 free and 24th in the 500 free. She also has top-100 times in three other events.

    Junior Andrea Hupman (Lawrenceville, Ga./Brookwood) is nationally ranked in the top-60 of four events. The two-time All-American is 19th in the 100 free, 36th in the 200 free, 54th in the 100 back and 59th in the 50 free.

    Freshman Mary Beth Francis (San Diejo, Calif./Mission Viejo) also is ranked top-100 in four events, with top-50 ratings in the 1,000 free (32nd) and 1,650 free (48th). Classmate Emily Wong (Nepean, Ontario/St. Joseph's) is rated 26th in the 50 free, 27th in the 100 free and 67th in the 200 free.

    Six other Wildcats also have earned top-100 times in the nation so far this season: Jenn Kocsis (Omaha, Neb./Marian) is 45th in the 1,650 free and 57th in the 500 free; Rachel Rys (Goleta, Calif./Dos Pueblos) is 31st in the 200 fly and 50th in the 100 fly; Katie Braun (Edina, Minn./Edina) is 46th in the 100 fly and 70th in the 200 fly; Hayley Fry (Marion, Iowa/Linn-Mar) ranks 61st in the 200 breast and 91st in the 100 breast; Jessie Bailis (Omaha, Neb./Millard North) is 43rd in the 100 breast and Genny Szymanski (Haines, Alaska/Haines) is 43rd in the 200 back.

    Following the pair of meets this weekend, Northwestern will hold its final tuneup for the Big Ten Championships at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, at home against Michigan.
