MADISON, Wis. -- Northwestern got a pair of wins from hometown junior Becca Soderholm (Madison, Wis./Madison East) and a sweep on the 3-meter diving board, but otherwise had a rough go against Wisconsin Thursday night in a 173-121 loss to the Badgers.

Wisconsin set the tone early with wins in the first five events before Soderholm broke through for a resounding 1.69-second victory in the 200 fly, turning in a time of 2:05.26. Heading into the meet's first break, junior Cosima Lenz (Altadena, Calif./Polytechnic School) scored a season-best 304.95 to win the 3-meter springboard followed in second by freshman Caroline Grant's (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier) 271.58.

In the back half of the meet, Wisconsin continued to pull away in events until Soderholm notched her second win when she held off a late challenge in the 400 IM to touch first in 4:23.91, four one-hundredths of a second in front of her Badger challenger.

"We really are getting strong with our aggressive finishes, but it was not enough to get many wins today," head coach Jimmy Tierney said. "We are very proud of Madison native Becca Soderholm getting two wins in her hometown, and we are seeing some great progress and growth by some of the freshmen but we still have a lot to do."

The coaching staff also singled out senior Meghan Fenn (New Rochelle, N.Y./The Ursuline School) for her hard work in coming back from offseason surgery. Fenn knocked good time off her early-season best in the 200 back to take third behind second-place freshman Shelly Patton (Littleton, Colo./Heritage) for the 'Cats.

Northwestern returns to action November 16-18 at the Norris Aquatics Center in the TYR Invitational, the final event on the official fall competition schedule. The three-day meet features preliminary heats at 9 a.m. CT each day followed by 5 p.m. CT finals on Friday and Saturday, and 3 p.m. CT finals on Sunday.
