    Top Two Times in 200 Yard IM Propel NU Over WKU 155-145 Friday

    BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Northwestern freshmen Lauren Abruzzo and Lacey Locke each set WKU pool records at the Bill Powell Natatorium in the Wildcats first road meet of the season. 

    Locke and Abruzzo also recorded the top times in the 200 yard IM to clinch the victory for NU, as the 'Cats (3-0) defeated Western Kentucky 155-145 Friday.

    In the meet's final individual event, Locke won the 200 yard IM (2:05.22), with Abruzzo finishing second, swimming a 2:06.16.

    Abruzzo started things off breaking the Bill Powell Natatorium pool record with a win in the 1,000 yard freestyle, besting her time by over five seconds against Eastern Michigan and Illinois, swimming a 10:00.04. The previous WKU pool record was 10:14.58 set on Nov. 17, 2012. 

    Abruzzo also won the 500 yard freestyle, swimming a 4:56.83.

    Freshman Locke earned NU a win in the 100 yard backstroke (55.39), breaking the WKU pool record of 55.53 set in 2010. Locke also won the 200 yard backstroke, swimming a 2:01.01, and the 200 yard IM (2:05.22).

    After WKU's 1:03.53 time in the 100 yard breaststroke took the event, Northwestern freshman Ellen Stello answered to win the 200 yard butterfly (2:05.33). In the race's final 50 yards, Stello led WKU's Courtney Marx by just 0.09, but finished the race strong to win by more than 30 seconds. 

    Cosima Lenz recorded a second place score in 1-meter (257.65) and 3-meter diving (259.35).

    The `Cats were strong in the 200 yard freestyle, finishing with the top three fastest times, led by Jackie Powell's 1:52.67.

    Annika Winsnes swam a 52.06 in the 100 yard freestyle to earn the win for NU.

    Northwestern is back in action Friday, Nov. 8 in a dual meet against Big Ten rivals Purdue and Ohio State in West Lafayette, Ind. at 3:00 p.m. CT.

    The `Cats return home to the Norris Aquatics Center hosting Wisconsin on Friday, Nov. 15 at 4:30 p.m. CT.
