South Bend, Ind. – The Shamrock Invitational got underway Friday afternoon at the Rolfs Aquatic Center on the campus of Notre Dame.
After the first session on Friday afternoon, the Wildcats (6-6, 1-5) trail Iowa 63-47.
In the other women’s head-to-head competition, Notre Dame leads Iowa 79-31.
Notre Dame began the meet taking the 200 yard freestyle, with a time of 1:33.27, finishing nearly two full seconds ahead of Iowa and NU.
In the 500 yard freestyle, NU freshman Lauren Abruzzo posted a strong 4:53.58 to take second place in the race to Iowa’s Becky Stoughton. The ‘Cats Ellen Anderson followed Abruzzo with a time of 4:55.30.
NU’s 400 yard medley relay team ended the first session on a high note, finishing in second place with at time of 3:48.20. Freshman Lacey Locke
began the first leg of the relay for the ‘Cats. Julianne Kurke
, Valerie Nubbe
and Annika Winsnes
combined to post a second place finish.
Cosima Lenz began the diving portion of the Shamrock Invite with a score of 268.84 in the 1-meter.
The morning session of the Shamrock Invite begins Saturday at 9:00 a.m. CT, followed by the afternoon session at 4:00 p.m. CT.
The women’s 3-meter diving will start at 12:30 p.m. CT Saturday.
The invite also featured men’s swimming and diving programs with Missouri State’s men leading Iowa 61-49 and Notre Dame’s men ahead of Iowa 66-44 and Missouri State 58-52.
