EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern's Sharon J. Drysdale Field has been selected as the College winner of the 2008 Stabilizer Solutions/NFCA Field Maintenance Award, an honor that recognizes outstanding grounds maintenance and quality playing surfaces.

The Wildcats' grounds crew of Randy Stoneberg, Rich Thorn, Joe Berube and Jeff Monette earned the award through their hard work and dedication to maintaining a premier playing surface at Drysdale Field. Northwestern agronomist Tim VanLoo submitted the facility for consideration.

In addition to Northwestern's regular season home games, Sharon J. Drysdale Field has played host to the Big Ten Tournament and the Regional and Super Regional rounds of the NCAA Tournament. In 2006, ESPN.com proclaimed "the field and softball staff both earned rave reviews for staging the Big Ten Tournament..." following the conference event.

Sharon J. Drysdale Field is not only one of the best places to play softball, it is a premier ballpark for the fans as well.

Drysdale Field has received significant renovations over the past few years. Prior to 2006, the outfield was rolled and new turf installed. The infield material was removed and replaced with state-of-the-art Hilltopper infield mix. Following the completion of the 2007 season, the entire facility was upgraded with sunken dugouts, permanent stands, a game operations booth and a plaza down the third-base line. The upgrades were named possible by the generosity and efforts of many program friends and donors.

Winners of the Stabilizer Solutions/NFCA Field Maintenance Award will be recognized Wednesday, Dec. 10, during the opening business meeting at the NFCA National Convention in Marco Island, Fla.
