EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern sophomore Emily Allard (Antioch, Calif./Deer Valley) has been named the NCAA Division I Golden Shoe Award winner as the nation's top base stealer, announced today (Tuesday) by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA).
Allard led the nation in stolen base percentage in 2011 at .978 (45-for-46) while ranking second in the country with 1.05 total steals per game. Allard's All-America caliber season also saw her finish fourth in the country with a Northwestern-school-record .491 batting average and 15th in the nation in runs per game at 1.07.
The NFCA Golden Shoe is presented annually to the top base stealer from an NFCA member institution in each of the following divisions: NCAA (Divisions I, II and III), NAIA, NJCAA (Divisions I, II and III), Cal JC, NWAACC and high school. A committee comprised of head coaches in each of the 10 divisions determines the winner of their respective award.
