EVANSTON, Ill. -- The Big Ten batting title winner at the plate and strikeout champion in the circle, Northwestern sophomore Amy Letourneau (Laguna Niguel, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic) has been named an NFCA Great Lakes All-Region performer for the 2013 season.

Letourneau, an All-Big Ten first-team choice, is the first player in the over 30-year history of the Big Ten conference to win both the batting title (.475) and the strikeout crown (113) in the same season. While leading NU's offensive attack overall with a .382 average, 13 home runs, a .737 slugging percentage and a .478 on-base percentage at the plate, she also had a team-high 21 wins and 288 strikeouts with a .184 opponent's batting average in the circle during the 2013 season.

Letourneau batted .500, slugged 1.053 and compiled 10 doubles, 10 home runs and 34 RBIs over Northwestern's last 27 games this year. She ranked among the top-10 nationally in total strikeouts, in the top-20 for strikeouts per seven innings and in the top-25 for hits allowed per seven innings.

The consensus Louisville Slugger/NFCA National and USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Week on April 2 and a two-time Big Ten Player of the Week this season, Letourneau's second-team All-Region accolade is the first NFCA All-Region honor of her career.
