EVANSTON, Ill. -- Senior Erin Mobley (Santa Ana, Calif./Foothill) and sophomore Garland Cooper (Mission Viejo, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic) have been named 2005 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V first-team selections, as chosen by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

As first-team selections, the pair will appear on the ballot for the national team to be announced June 2. To be eligible for the honor, a candidate must be a sophomore, have a GPA of 3.20 or better and be a starter or key reserve for their team.

Mobley's selection is her second; she also appeared on the first team in 2003. She will graduate in June with a degree in social policy. She has a career-high six home runs this season and set the Northwestern career records for runs scored and total bases.

Cooper is majoring in communication studies. She has broken single-season Northwestern records for total bases this year, while leading the Big Ten in batting average, slugging percentage and on-base percentage.

The selections mark the fourth consecutive year a Wildcat has appeared on either the first or second teams. Lauren Schwendimann (2002), Mobley (2003) and Carri Leto (2004) are the other recent NU award winners.

This is the second time in program history that two honorees have appeared on the first team. In 1990, Kim Metcalf and Chinazo Opia both were first-team selections.
