EVANSTON, Ill. -- Sixth-ranked Northwestern begins the postseason this weekend as the No. 2 seed in the Big Ten Tournament hosted by Ohio State. The eight-team tournament begins with the Wildcats' first-round game against No. 7 seed Michigan State at 4 p.m. CT Thursday, May 10, and concludes at noon CT Saturday, May 12, with the championship game televised live on CSTV.

The Wildcats enter the tournament as the second seed or better for the third-consecutive year after reaching the 15-win plateau in conference for the third-straight season. Northwestern led the Big Ten with its 15 victories in the league slate this year.

Six different Wildcats earned 10 Big Ten Player or Pitcher of the Week honors in 2007, doubling the next-best total in the conference (Ohio State with five). The latest addition to the group was sophomore Erin Dyer (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport) who picked up the final Player of the Week honor of the season after launching three home runs in a doubleheader sweep of No. 14 DePaul.

Freshman Nicole Pauly (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) finished as the Big Ten's leader with 26 RBIs and 44 total bases in her first collegiate season, while senior Garland Cooper (Mission Viejo, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic) topped the conference with seven home runs, 14 walks and a .571 on-base percentage. Senior Katie Logan (Tempe, Ariz./Corona del Sol) was the conference champ with 26 hits, and senior Eileen Canney (Paradise, Calif./Paradise) paced the Big Ten with 112 strikeouts and 11 wins in league play.

With a win in its first game of the Big Ten Tournament, the Wildcats would advance to play the winner of the No. 3 Michigan vs. No. 6 Illinois matchup in the semifinals. That game in the semis is scheduled for 4 p.m. CT Friday, May 11.
