EVANSTON, Ill. -- For the third time since 2006, Northwestern and Sharon J. Drysdale Field will serve as hosts for the Big Ten Tournament this Thursday through Saturday, May 8-10. The Wildcats hosted the event in 2006 and 2008 after winning the B1G regular season. With the tournament's return at Nebraska last year following a four-year hiatus, NU again has host duties based on alphabetical rotation through the league. In 2008, the last time the B1G Tournament was in Evanston, NU took home the title.

Northwestern enters the 2014 Big Ten Tournament as the No. 5 seed and will open Thursday at 7 p.m. against No. 12 seed Michigan State, which the Wildcats swept just one week ago here in Evanston. The game will be a historic first at NU's little Wrigley of the North Shore: just like the Cubs in 1988, the Wildcats will be hosting and playing in their first-ever night game at their longtime home.

All-session ($27) and group tickets ($5 per session) are available now online at or by calling 888-GO-PURPLE. Single-session group tickets are available groups of 15 or more before the start of Thursday's games by contacting Joe Thuente at 847-467-6862 or

Single-session tickets are $10 for adults and $6 for students/youth/seniors. Northwestern students will be admitted free. In addition, NU head coach Kate Drohan will provide FREE PIZZA to all Northwestern students in attendance for the Wildcats' games while supplies last (and she bought a lot of supplies, so bring your friends!)

Another Cubs connection: Many of the participants in the tournament will be welcomed to tour Wrigley Field Friday morning and have a catch on the hallowed grounds that hosted the initial tryouts for the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL) of A League of Their Own fame.

Action in the tournament gets underway at 11 a.m. CT Thursday with four games in the opening round, all to be televised on BTDN. Four more games starting at 11 a.m. CT Friday comprise the quarterfinals with the semifinals and championship game to be held consecutively beginning at 2:30 p.m. CT Saturday. Every game from the quarterfinals on will be televised live on BTN.

Northwestern will take the field Thursday with four newly minted All-Big Ten honorees: senior Marisa Bast (first-team, All-Defensive Team); senior Emily Allard (second-team, All-Defensive Team); sophomore Brianna LeBeau (first-team); and junor Andrea DiPrima (second-team).
