EVANSTON, Ill. -- Senior Mari Majam (Pine Valley, Calif./Mountain Empire) performed so well during Senior Weekend last weekend at Sharon J. Drysdale Field that she will enter the B1G Tournament hosted by NU as the reigning Big Ten Player of the Week.
Majam batted .700 overall in four games last weekend including .667 in a series sweep of Michigan State. She drove in five runs and scored five times while stealing five bases in total on the week.
Majam began the week by doing a little bit of everything at DePaul in a midweek nonconference contest. She went 1-for-1 in that contest with an RBI, a sacrifice, a walk a hit by pitch and a steal. In the series opener Friday against MSU, Majam knocked in a season-best three runs before going 3-for-4 with a season-best three runs scored on Saturday. In both Saturday and Sunday's games versus the Spartans, Majam stole a pair of bases.
Majam gives Northwestern book-end Big Ten Player of the Week awards for the 2014 season. Sophomore transfer Andrea Filler (Fort Wayne, Ind./Bishop Dwenger) won the honor in her first week in the conference back in early February. Seniors Emily Allard (Antioch, Calif./Deer Valley) and Marisa Bast (Orange, Calif./Villa Park) also received the Player of the Week nod during the year.
Additionally Nicole Bond
(Clayton, N.C./Clayton) was a Freshman of the Week during the year to give NU five different weekly B1G award earners this season.
