Northwestern's Michigan State Series Game Notes
EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern makes its final road trip of the 2012 Big Ten season this weekend, May 5-6, to East Lansing, Mich., to take on Michigan State.
The three-game series begins with a noon CT (1 p.m. ET) doubleheader Saturday, May 5, at MSU's new Secchia Stadium before a noon CT (1 p.m. ET) series finale single game on Sunday, May 6. All three games originally were scheduled to be streamed live on the Big Ten Digital Network, but those streams have been canceled by MSU due to lack of student staff on graduation weekend. Fans still can follow the action live via the weeble wobbles on Gametracker and on twitter: @NU_SportsLIVE.
Northwestern is coming off a victory in its last B1G series, falling in the first game to Ohio State before sweeping a Sunday doubleheader. In the first contest, Meghan Lamberth tossed a complete game for a 3-1 win before NU's bats took over for an 8-5 victory in the nightcap.
Senior Adrienne Monka is the reigning Big Ten Player of the Week after batting .600 with three home runs and nine RBIs in five games a week ago. She reached several milestones with her POW performance, including becoming the fourth Wildcat to reach the 50-career home run mark (she now has 52). Her 52nd bomb landed on the roof of McGaw Hall last Sunday against Ohio State, the building adjacent to Sharon J. Drysdale Field, making her the first person to ever hit two homers in a career onto the roof.
Following this weekend's road series, Northwestern returns home for Senior Weekend and the Purple Auction. The celebrations kicks off with a 2 p.m. CT doubleheader Friday, May 11, against Illinois at Sharon J. Drysdale Field. Saturday is Senior Day for Monka and Olivia Zolke. The pair will be honored before the game and again after during the annual Purple Auction, which will be held in Welsh-Ryan Arena.
