EVANSTON, Ill. -- For the second-straight year, senior infielder Marisa Bast (Orange, Calif./Villa Park) has been named a Capital One Academic All-District V first-team selection by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

A 2013 Capital One Academic All-America second-team honoree, Bast also has earned Academic All-Big Ten, NFCA All-America Scholar Athlete and Big Ten Distinguished Scholar honors in the classroom in her career in addition to being a 2012 NFCA All-American on the field. The 2014 Capital One Academic All-District Award is the 15th in Northwestern softball history and makes Bast the third two-time winner of the honor in program history, joining Chinazo Opia (1989-90) and Garland Cooper (2005-07).

To be eligible for the award, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or better and be in at least their second academic year at their institution. Bast now is eligible for consideration on the Academic All-America ballot.

Bast is closing her Northwestern career with a bang, currently batting .349 with 48 RBIs to rank 21st in the nation in RBIs per game. She leads NU with 26 walks and eight home runs. Bast ranks sixth among active NCAA Division I players with 188 career RBIs and ranks among the top-10 all-time at NU in nine different offensive categories.

In addition to her prowess in the classroom and on the field, Bast has created a soon-to-be nationally recognized anti-bullying program for Evanston and Chicagoland area schools called Wildcats Stand Up and Reach Out and Reinforce Respect (R.O.A.R.R.) as part of her Undergraduate Leadership Certificate. She is a learning and organizational change major.

NU returns to action on Senior Weekend May 2-4 against Michigan State when the Wildcats will honor Bast and her five classmates at Sharon J. Drysdale Field.
