NU Hosts the Big Ten Tournament May 8-10!
EVANSTON, Ill. -- No. 25 Northwestern makes its final road trip of the 2014 Big Ten season this weekend when it travels to Ohio State April 25-27 for the Wildcats first visit to Columbus since 2010.
Friday's game begins at 5 p.m. CT/6 p.m. ET, Saturday's contest is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT/2 p.m. ET and Sunday's getaway day tilt is a noon CT/1 p.m. ET first pitch. All three games will be streamed live on the Big Ten Digital Network (available for a nominal subscription fee) while NU SID Doug Meffley will provide free audio at NUsports.com.
The Wildcats are on a five-game winning streak in the Big Ten and six games overall after sweeping Indiana last weekend at Sharon J. Drysdale Field and taking both ends of a doubleheader at Illinois Tuesday evening. Senior Marisa Bast is the reigning Big Ten Player of the Week and she kept her hot hitting going with six RBIs against the Illini. Freshman Nicole Bond tossed her best outing in the circle in her young career in game two in Champaign, allowing just two base runners and one total hit against nine strikeouts in a 9-0 (6) run-rule win.
Much like Northwestern's visit to Minnesota earlier in April, this trip to Columbus will be the first for every Wildcat except fifth-year senior Emily Allard. Quirks in the schedule brought on by conference realignment meant NU had not been to Minneapolis since 2009.
Ohio State (22-23, 8-9 Big Ten) also enters this series having swept a Big Ten midweek doubleheader after taking 3-1 and 3-0 decisions Wednesday against Penn State at Buckeye Field.
Following this road trip, NU has a nonconference away game at DePaul April 30
then return home for Senior Weekend May 2-4 against Michigan State. Part of that weekend's festivities will include, as always, the celebrated PURPLE AUCTION on Saturday, May 3.
