EVANSTON, Ill. -- For the first time since opening the Big Ten season at Nebraska in mid-March, Northwestern hits the road this weekend for a three-game conference set April 19-21 at Penn State.
Game one on Friday, April 19, is scheduled for a 5 p.m. CT (6 p.m. ET) first pitch while Saturday's game will be a late afternoon 3 p.m. CT (4 p.m. ET) start due to the Nittany Lions Blue-White spring football game earlier in the day. Sunday's series finale is a noon CT (1 p.m. ET) contest. All games will have audio broadcasts courtesy of Penn State and, as always, Gametracker and live @NU_SportsLIVE twitter coverage.
NU is coming off home series against Minnesota, Illinois and Iowa the past three weekends, and will return home again April 26-28 for Senior Weekend against Purdue. The Wildcats' seventh-annual Purple Auction will be Saturday, April 27, after the game. For more information on that spectacular celebration, visit the softball page at NUsports.com.
Northwestern's offense has come alive as of late, accounting for 9.63 runs per game over the Wildcats' last eight contests. NU has scored in double digits in four of those games and won four of them in run-rule fashion. Accounting for a large portion of that output has been the middle of the Northwestern lineup that is just pummeling the ball. Marisa Bast, Amy Letourneau, Anna Edwards and Andrea DiPrima are all on significant hot streaks at the moment with some sort of single-game career-best outputs for each over the past three weeks.
Before returning home against Purdue, Northwestern will make a quick trip up to Madison for a B1G doubleheader April 24. That series against Wisconsin originally was scheduled for March 27 but had to be postponed when Wisconsin's field was not yet ready for play. The BTN broadcasts slated for the series will not be produced.
