Northwestern's Indiana Series Game Notes (PDF Format)
EVANSTON, Ill. -- After two weeks at home, Northwestern returns to the Big Ten roadways this Saturday and Sunday for a conference series at Indiana. The normal day one doubleheader and day two series finale format will be flipped this weekend, with the teams opening at 11 a.m. CT (Noon ET) Saturday, April 21, before playing a Big Ten Network doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. CT (2 p.m. ET) Sunday, April 22.
The above schedule differs from the originally released Wildcats' season schedule after it was switched to accomodate the live television broadcast on Sunday. Those games will be NU's fourth and fifth games this season beamed live in high definition to a national television audience.
Entering this weekend, Northwestern remains in the top-50 of the NCAA Ratings Percentage Index (RPI) at No. 47 despite having a sub-.500 record. The Wildcats have played 32 of their 39 games this year against teams currently in the RPI top 100 and 15 games against the top 32. NU has wins over No. 13 Texas A&M, No. 16 Missouri and No. 23 Texas Tech.
Sophomore Marisa Bast took over the title of top RBI producer in the Big Ten after last weekend's games were completed. Bast has a conference-best 11 home runs this year and 44 total RBIs, which also rank her 19th in the nation with 1.13 RBIs per game.
While Bast has the league's top long ball numbers, Northwestern junior Emily Allard has the B1G's best ground game, leading the Big Ten with 59 base hits and 25 stolen bases. Senior Adrienne Monka paces the conference in respect, owning the most walks (34) in the Big Ten while ranking 10th in the nation with 0.87 walks per game.
After having no nonconference games scheduled the last two weeks, Northwestern will play at Loyola (Chicago) on Tuesday, April 24, and at Northern Illinois on Wednesday, April 25, following its trip to Indiana.
