EVANSTON, Ill. -- Sitting alone atop the Big Ten standings after sweeping its opening weekend at home, Northwestern hits the road to visit Minnesota and Wisconsin this weekend.
The Wildcats recently jumped to No. 18 in both coaches polls following their 4-0 Big Ten start.
A number of Wildcats recently reached or are approaching milestones.
Junior Kristen Amegin (Sacramento, Calif./Elk Grove) tied the NU all-time home run record Sunday against Iowa with the 20th blast of her career. Junior Courtnay Foster (Tucson, Ariz./Sahuaro) claimed second-place all-time in strikeouts all by herself over the weekend; she currently has 663 for her career.
Junior Jamie Dotson (Santa Ana, Calif./Foothill) is two doubles shy of the
NU single-season record of 13 and just nine RBIs shy of the single-season mark of 44. As a team, Northwestern is one home run short of matching the single-season team record.
Sophomore Eileen Canney (Paradise, Calif./Paradise) threw the fourth perfect game in Northwestern history last weekend against Illinois, and was named Big Ten Pitcher of the Week for her efforts. The honor was her second of the season and NU's fourth of the year.
Minnesota enters the weekend with an 18-16 record thanks to a mid-week
sweep of UW-Green Bay. The Gophers opened the Big Ten schedule with a win
against Penn State, but then lost its next three against PSU and Ohio State.
Wisconsin (12-13) had a 3-1 opening Big Ten weekend, sweeping Ohio State
before splitting with Penn State. UW most recently dropped a mid-week game
against UIC, 5-4, in which is rapped out 12 hits but stranded 11 runners.
