EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern's first home Big Ten series of the season is on tap this weekend at Sharon J. Drysdale Field when NU welcomes Iowa to Evanston for a trio of games.
The series gets underway with a noon CT doubleheader Saturday that will be televised live on the Big Ten Network. Sunday's finale is scheduled for a 1 p.m. CT first pitch and will be streamed live on NUsports.com via the Big Ten Digital Network. Saturday's action also can be heard on Northwestern student radio WNRU 89.3 FM.
Saturday is EBSA Kickoff Day when the Evanston Youth Baseball and Softball Leagues jumpstart their seasons with the Wildcats. Fans also can participate in "Caught Stealing Sponsored by Noodles and Company" between games for a chance to win free food from Noodles!
Northwestern remains in the top-50 of the NCAA Ratings Percentage Index (RPI) in the data's second week despite having a sub-.500 record. The Wildcats have played 26 of their 33 games against teams currently in the RPI top 100 and 14 games against the top 30. NU has wins over No. 13 Texas A&M, No. 18 Missouri and No. 29 Texas Tech.
Northwestern opened its home schedule back on March 28 with a 7-2 victory over UIC in front of a large mid-week crowd. The Wildcats then immediately got back on the road for a 2-1 series victory over Wisconsin in Madison. After dropping game one to the Badgers, NU held on through a seventh-inning rally in game two to allow Marisa Bast to club a game-winning grand slam in the nightcap. On Sunday, Northwestern exploded for six runs in the fifth inning -- helped by an Amy Letourneau pinch hit three-run homer -- to win 8-3.
Iowa is venturing away from Iowa City for the first time in seven games, most recently sweeping a three-game series from Illinois to move to 4-2 on the Big Ten season. The Hawkeyes overall are 14-18 on the year.
