    EVANSTON, Ill. -- Senior Tammy Williams (Roscoe, Mo./Osceola) has been named one of 10 finalists for the 2009 Lowe's Senior CLASS Award for softball. Nationwide balloting begins immediately to determine the third-annual winner of the award, so Vote Now!

    The finalists were chosen from a list of 30 candidates based on personal qualities that define a complete student-athlete. These four primary areas of criteria include: classroom, community, character and competition. The 10 finalists will be placed on the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award softball ballot for a nationwide vote beginning March 30 and concluding May 7. Fan balloting, available on the award's official website www.seniorclassaward.com, will be combined with votes from coaches, media and sponsors to determine the recipient of the award.

    Williams is a three-time All-American for Northwestern and the reigning Big Ten Player of the Year. She already owns career records at NU for hits and runs scored, and is on pace to rank among the all-time greats in NCAA Division I history in several offensive categories.

    Williams has been called the nation's best shortstop and one of the country's top hitters by ESPN.com. She was selected by the Chicago Bandits in the National Professional Fastpitch (NPF) Senior Draft in February.

    A human development and psychological services major with a minor in business instiutions, Williams has performed internships and volunteered at Chicago's Children's Memorial Hospital, the Kohl's Children's Museum, with Special Olympics and with the Girls in the Game program that provides and promotes sports and fitness opportunities, nutrition and health education, and leadership development to enhance the overall health and well-being of all girls in the Chicagoland area.

    Williams is the second Wildcat to be named a top-10 finalist for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award in softball, following on the heels of Garland Cooper in 2007. Click here to read Williams' Senior CLASS finalist bio.
