EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern opens its 2013 home schedule this Friday through Sunday, March 29-31, with a three-game Big Ten series against Minnesota. Sunday's contest will be broadcats live on BTN.
The Wildcats and the Gophers first square off at 4 p.m. CT Friday, March 29, before a 1 p.m. tilt on Saturday. Sunday's game is slated for a 12:05 p.m. CT first pitch on BTN with veteran softball play-by-play man Eric Collins alongside Northwestern All-American and Athletics Hall of Fame member Garland Cooper.
Northwestern softball is now a ticketed event at Sharon J. Drysdale Field. Adult tickets are $7 while seniors age 65 and older, faculty/staff, children 17 and under, and students from other Universities with a valid ID can purchase tickets for $4. As always, tailgating is encouraged at Sharon J. Drysdale Field.
Also, all groups of 15 or more will get into Sharon J. Drysdale Field for just $3 per person. Group members in the 8th grade and under are invited onto the field before the game to form a high five tunnel during starting lineups. All groups are invited to meet the players and take a picture on the field near the centerfield "Northwestern" sign after the game. Members of all groups will get a free Northwestern hat. To order group tickets call 847-467-6862.
Fans can pick up their 2013 softball schedule posters and sign up to win Cubs tickets this weekend. On Easter Sunday, the Easter bunny will be in attendance to lead a variety of holiday-related activities.
NU began Big Ten play last weekend at No. 25 Nebraska where only two of the three scheduled contests were able to be completed due to weather. The Wildcats then were slated to travel to Madison for a March 27 doubleheader against Wisconsin, but that series has been postponed by poor early spring playing conditions. The Badgers are attempting to shift some nonconference contests to accommodate the rescheduling of the series at some point in April; an announcement will be made as soon as the new date and times are known.
Minnesota is making its fourth-straight trip to Evanston after also visiting Sharon J. Drysdale Field in 2010, '11 and '12. Last season the two teams traded run-rule victories before the third game was decided in extra innings.
