WATCH: Video preview of Nebraska series

EVANSTON, Ill. -- After a week off for winter quarter final exams, Northwestern re-takes the diamond this weekend for its first Big Ten series of the season March 22-24 at No. 25 Nebraska.

NOTE: Weather has forced a shift in the originally announced schedule. The series will begin with a 3 p.m. CT doubleheader on Friday, March 22, with the third game of the series to be determined.

Northwestern enters B1G play with a 14-10 overall record that includes a win over then-No. 4 Tennessee and eight total games against teams currently ranked in the USA Today/NFCA coaches poll. Nebraska, which earlier this year handed No. 1 Oklahoma its only loss of 2013, will make it three more contests against ranked opponents for the Wildcats after the Huskers entered the NFCA poll this week at No. 25.

    Watch Nebraska Series Preview

NU has been on a pitching and defensive roll in its last seven games, allowing just three runs with five shutouts in that span. At one point, NU strung together 35 consecutive scoreless innings, a streak that ranks third in school history behind a 40-inning stretch spanning the 2008 Big Ten Tournament and NCAA Evanston Regional and a similarly long streak during 1987 B1G play.

Senior Meghan Lamberth (three shuouts) and sophomore Amy Letourneau (two shutouts, 44Ks in 29.0 innings) tossed every pitch during that stretch. Lamberth has now doubled her career shutout total entering the season while Letourneau ranks 11th in the nation with 9.8Ks per seven innigs and 29th with 4.26 hits allowed per seven frames of work.

This weekend's series will be a preview of sorts for the 2013 Big Ten Tournament, which Nebraska will host in May. The tourney has been on hiatus since the 2008 season, when Northwestern captured the crown at its own Sharon J. Drysdale Field.
