EVANSTON, Ill. -- Senior Tammy Williams (Roscoe, Mo./Osceola) has been named both the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I National Player of the Week and the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Week following her performance during last weekend's Preview presented by Worth in Oklahoma City, Okla.

Northwestern swept a pair of games against No. 8 Tennessee and split two games with No. 6 Oklahoma, emerging from The Preview with the best record among the teams there. The tournament was held at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium, site of the Women's College World Series.

Williams batted .545 and slugged 1.364 while scoring five runs and earning three intentional walks for a .667 on-base percentage in NU's four games. In a 7-3 win over No. 8 Tennessee Saturday, Williams doubled twice including a seventh-inning hit that led to a walk-off grand slam for the Wildcats. Against No. 6 Oklahoma Friday night, Williams hit a game-tying home run in the top of the sixth inning before the Sooners came back to win. On Sunday, Williams was intentionally walked three times after doubling and homering in her first two at-bats during an 11-3 win over No. 8 Tennessee.

The NFCA honor is the second of Williams' career while the USA Softball nod is her first. Williams is a member of the watch list for the 2009 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award and is a candidate for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award. She leads the Big Ten with 33 hits and a .493 batting average while pacing NU with 22 runs scored through 20 games this year.
