    EVANSTON, Ill. -- No. 7 Northwestern will continue to test its mettle this weekend at Big League Dreams Park in Cathedral City, Calif., at the 2007 Palm Springs Classic.

    In a field featuring 10 ranked teams and six of the top-10 ranked squads in the nation, the Wildcats face five opponents each with winning records (40-11 combined mark entering this weekend).

    Northwestern begins the Classic at 2:30 p.m. CT Friday, Feb. 23, against BYU (8-2) before facing No. 6 Oregon State (6-3) at 8 p.m. Friday night. On Saturday, Feb. 24, NU takes on Cal Poly (6-3) at 2:30 p.m. CT before an 8 p.m. CT showdown with No. 2 Arizona State (13-0). The 'Cats close the Classic with an 11 a.m. CT tilt against No. 12 UCLA (7-4).

    The Wildcats enter the game with a 6-4 overall record after going 4-1 at last weekend's Louisville Slugger Desert Classic in Las Vegas, Nev. The tournament was highlighted by senior Eileen Canney's (Paradise, Calif./Paradise) no-hitter in a six-inning, 10-1 run-rule victory against No. 11 California. In the game, senior Jessica Miller (Elberfeld, Ind./Techumseh) was 4-for-4 with a double, a homer, three runs scored and two RBIs.

    Sophomore Tammy Williams (Roscoe, Mo./Osceola) currently leads Northwestern with a .500 batting average, nine runs scored and an .833 slugging percentage. Senior Garland Cooper (Mission Viejo, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic) jacked three home runs last weekend to become the Wildcats' all-time leader with 36. She has a team-best 10 RBIs.

    Freshman Lauren Delaney (Jefferson City, Mo./Helias) leads NU in the circle with a 1.26 ERA and a perfect 4-0 record.
