Game Notes  NU's Tiger Invitational Notes

EVANSTON, Ill. --After pounding the ball to the tune of a .405 team average during a successful opening weekend, Northwestern heads south to Baton Rouge, La., this weekend, Feb. 14-16, to face three foes at LSU's Tiger Invitational.

Because of travel difficulty for Penn State dealing the massive snowstorm throughout much of the South and East, the original Tiger Invitational schedule has been rearranged. Northwestern now will face George Washington at 12:30 p.m CT and No. 21 LSU at 3 p.m. CT on Friday before playing No. 18 South Alabama at 10 a.m. CT Saturday followed by another 12:30 p.m. CT showdown with the Colonials. South Alabama was scheduled to compete in the same Georgia tournament that NU did one year ago, but it has been snowed out so the Jaguars will be included in LSU's event.

NU concludes the tournament against Penn State at 11:30 a.m. CT Sunday. NU and PSU do not face each other in the Big Ten regular season this year; in 2013 the Wildcats swept a three-game set in State College.

Led by Big Ten Player of the Week Andrea Filler's.778 average, NU had eight players bat over .357 last weekend while averaging 9.5 runs per game. The Wildcats won two games by the run-rule and fell only once, 4-3, to No. 22 Stanford.

The last time Northwestern and LSU met was back in 2008 at the then-Palm Springs Classic in Cathedral City, Calif. One of the marquee matchups of the tournament, No. 2 Northwestern came back to defeat No. 6 LSU, 6-4, on a sixth-inning three-run home run from Nicole Pauly.

This season, for the first time, live audio will be provided for every single Northwestern game for the entire year. Listen live links can be found in this NUsports.com weekly preview release above, more simply, on the NU softball schedule page. Broadcasts will be free of charge on Wildcats All-Access.

Tickets for 2014 Northwestern softball at Sharon J. Drysdale Field go on sale Monday, Feb. 24, and can be purchased online at NUsports.com or by calling 888-GO-PURPLE (467-8775). Tickets are $7 for adults, $4 for youth and seniors, and $3 for groups of 15 or more. For softball ticketing questions or for group sales, contact Joe Thuente at 847-467-6862 or j-thuente@northwestern.edu.

Northwestern is the host of the 2014 Big Ten Tournament beginning May 8 at Sharon J. Drysdale Field. All-session and group tickets for this premier, 12-team softball event also will go on sale at the end of February. The tournament will feature not only some of the nation's best softball, but also will feature the first-ever night game in the history of Sharon J. Drysdale Field.
