Softball Bows Out of Big Ten Tournament

'Cats fall to Minnesota in game two.

EVANSTON, Ill. -- The Northwestern softball was eliminated from the Big Ten Tournament with a 6-0 loss to the Minnesota Golden Gophers on Saturday. NU finishes the season 34-19 overall, 15-9 in the Big Ten. Minnesota jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first. Leftfielder Lindsey Prezell made a valiant effort to pull in Shannon Beeler's drive to left, but it just ticked her glove as it fell over the fence for a two-run homer. Pitcher Jackie DeBoard settled down after that, giving up just one hit until the seventh, when Beeler went deep again.

DeBoard set a Big Ten Tournament record with 17 strikeouts in the two games and Jill Nesbitt and Brooke Siebel finished the season tied for the single-season record in RBIs and doubles, respectively. NU's .365 slugging percentage this season was also the best season in school history.
