Softball Defeats Ohio State
Wildcats finish second in Big Ten

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern softball team knocked off the Ohio State Buckeyes Sunday, 2-0, to win the series, 2-1, and finish in second place in the Big Ten. NU is now 34-17 overall, 15-9 in the Big Ten, and will head to Ann Arbor. Mich., next weekend for the Big Ten Tournament.
It was a pitching duel all day, as Jodi Dolan of Ohio State and Jackie DeBoard both took two-hit shutouts into the sixth inning. The Buckeyes loaded the bases with nobody out, but DeBoard got a popup and two strikeouts to kill the threat. NU then loaded the bases in the bottom half of the inning and Jenn Shull hit a soft double down the left field line with two out to score both runs. DeBoard then finished off her 11th shutout of the year to improve her record to 24-6.
Northwestern finishes a half a game ahead of Iowa for second place in the Big Ten. The two teams will face off in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament this Fri., May 8 at 11 a.m. Big Ten Champion Michigan will play fourth-place Minnesota in game two on Friday.
