    Softball Wins Twice

    Northwestern Blasts Spartans in Doubleheader Sweep

    EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Tami Jones had five hits and two RBIs on the day as the Wildcats swept the Spartans on Saturday 9-2, 7-2 at Old College Field. NU is now 30-15, 11-7 Big Ten, while MSU falls to 30-16, 11-9 Big Ten.

    In game one, Jones went 3-for-3 to help the 'Cats snap Michigan State's six-game winning streak. Pitcher Jackie DeBoard, earning win number 19 on the year, allowed just one hit in four innings. Brooke Siebel and Jenny Beseres closed out the win for NU. In the third inning with the score tied 1-1, Northwestern broke it open, scoring six runs. Jill Nesbitt, who was 2-for-4 in game one, drove in two runs with a single to left. In the fourth inning, Kyla Hattabaugh hit a solo shot to left center to put the 'Cats up 7-1. In the nightcap DeBoard pitched a complete game, holding the Spartans to just one earned run. Northwestern took a 2-0 lead early, as Mikie Chambers scored on a wild pitch and Lindsey Prezell singled to right, driving in Amanda Peterson.

    Northwestern, capitalizing on the Spartans' defensive struggles, scored three runs in the fourth inning. Brooke Siebel had two RBIs, driving in Peterson and Chambers with a double to right center. Tomorrow, the 'Cats finish the series with a single game at 11 a.m. CT. They return to Anderson Field to host Iowa in a 2 p.m. doubleheader on Wed., April 29.
