Softball Loses Close Games to Michigan

Wildcats fall short by one run twice.

EVANSTON, Ill. -- The Northwestern softball team lost three games at Michigan over the weekend, the last two by just one run.

In Saturday's first game, it was all Michigan, as the #2 ranked Wolverines took a run-rule shortened win, 11-0. The NU pitching staff settled down in game two, as Jackie DeBoard held Michigan to just one run and two hits. The 'Cats could only generate two hits themselves, though, and fell, 1-0. Michigan took an early 4-0 lead in game three, but NU tied it with three runs in the fourth and one in the fifth. Michigan plated a run in the bottom of the seventh, though, to take the win. Brooke Siebel was the catalyst at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and two doubles. She was 5-for-8 for the series.

NU is back in action this Tuesday when they travel to DePaul to take on the 19th-ranked Blue Demons in a 3 p.m. doubleheader. They play another doubleheader at Northern Illinois on Wednesday before heading to Michigan State for three games next weekend.
