    Northwestern Softball Splits Doubleheader with Penn State

    EVANSTON, Ill. -- The Northwestern softball team defeated Penn State, 3-1, in game one of a doubleheader today at Anderson Field before the Nittany Lions came back to take game two, 6-3. Northwestern is now 23-12 overall, 6-4 in the Big Ten. Penn State is 14-20-1, 4-8 in the conference.

    Jaclyn DeBoard improved to 14-2 on the year with a three-hit, one-run performance in game one. She struck out seven and walked just one in 6.1 innings. Amanda Peterson was 2-for-4 to pace the offense. Kyla Hattabaugh and Brooke Siebel each went 2-for-3 in game two, but Siebel took the loss on the hill, dropping her record to 6-5.

    Penn State jumped out to a 3-1 lead after the first inning, but NU tied it with two runs in the second. The Nittany Lions made it 4-3 in the bottom of the second and added two insurance runs in the fourth to seal the win.

    The two teams wrap up the weekend series with a single game tomorrow at noon at Anderson Field.
