    Northwestern Softball Open Season with Win in California

    Wildcats drop San Diego State 4-3.

    EVANSTON, Ill. -- The Northwestern women's softball team travelled to Northridge, Calif. last weekend to take part in the Bud Light Spring Kick-Off Tournament and came away with one win in three games.

    NU took on Cal-State Northridge in their first came and fell, 7-2. Amanda Peterson, Jill Nesbitt and Jenn Shull had hits for NU, with Shull picking up their lone RBI. NU rebounded to pick up their first win of the season with a 4-3 win over San Diego State on Sunday. Freshman Brooke Siebel picked up the complete game win in her first collegiate start. She went five innings, giving up just four hits and one earned run. She also led the attack at the plate, going two for two with two RBIs. Nesbitt and Kyla Hattabaugh each picked up RBIs and Mikeal Chambers swiped three bases. The 'Cats wrapped up the trip in a 4-2 loss to Oregon State. Junior Lindsey Prezell had two hits and Mikeal Chambers had two RBIs. Heavy rain forced cancellation of NU's game with Loyola-Marymount.

    NU is in action next Fri.-Sun., Feb. 13-15, when they travel to Gainesville, Fla., to take part in the University Centre Invitational. They will play a double-header with Stetson and a single game with Florida on Friday, a double-header with South Florida on Saturday and wrap up the trip with a game against Centenary on Sunday.
