EVANSTON, Ill. -- The Northwestern softball team travelled to Gainesville, Fla., last weekend to take part in the University Centre Invitational and came away with three wins in the five games. NU opened the tournament with a win over Stetson, 2-1 in extra innings, on Friday. The start of the game was delayed almost two hours for rain. When the teams finally hit the field, NU jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Jill Nesbitt walked before advancing to third on two wild pitches. She then stole home to score the run. Stetson tied it in the fifth and the teams went to the ninth inning before Kyla Hattabaugh was walked home with the bases loaded to give NU the win. Jaclyn DeBoard picked up the win in relief in her first appearance of the year. NU fell to 1-1 in the tournament with a 3-0 loss to Florida that night. NU made it two out of three on Saturday with a 3-2 win over South Florida in game one of a double-header. Kyla Hattabaugh was three for three with two runs scored and Jill Nesbitt had two RBIs. Brooke Siebel picked up the win, she's now 2-0 on the year, and added an RBI. She went the distance, giving up eight hits and one earned run. South Florida got revenge in game two with a 1-0 win. Hattabaugh was two for four and Tami Jones had two hits.

The 'Cats capped off the weekend when Jaclyn DeBoard tossed her first no-hitter as a Wildcat in a 4-0 win over Centenary on Sunday. She struck out 10 and walked just one in her first start of the year. Jones and Mikeal Chambers had two hits apiece while Hattabaugh, Nesbitt and Brittany Nelson had RBIs.

Northwestern improves to 4-3 on the year and is in action in two weeks when they travel to Knoxville, Tenn., to play in the Lady Vol Spring Invitational.
