BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- After Northwestern used the long ball to take down Indiana in game one of a Sunday Big Ten doubleheader at the IU Softball Field, the Hoosiers turned the tables with three of their own in game two for an 11-3 (6) win over the Wildcats.

Northwestern falls to 18-24 on the season after its loss, 6-9 in the Big Ten. Indiana now is 23-22 with its win, 7-8 in the conference.

Northwestern started the scoring in Sunday's second game, beginning its rally with a leadoff Emily Allard (Antioch, Calif./Deer Valley) single and steal of second. A hard one-out groundout from Adrienne Monka (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif./Rancho Cucamonga) pushed Allard to third, then Marisa Bast (Orange, Calif./Villa Park) collected her 50th RBI of the season with a rocket single to right to give the Wildcats a quick 1-0 lead.

Indiana plated three runs in the bottom of the first against Northwestern starter Amy Letourneau (Laguna Niguel, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic), getting a two-run single and a third run on a wild pitch to take a 3-1 lead going into the second frame.

The Hoosiers tacked another run onto their lead with a leadoff solo home run in the bottom of the second before a two-out, two-run home run in the third made it a 6-1 lead for Indiana.

Northwestern threatened in the top of the fourth via a one-out Andrea DiPrima (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove) single and a two-out Anna Edwards (La Canada, Calif./La Canada) double that put Wildcats at second and third, but Indiana was able to retire the next batter to end the frame.

Meghan Lamberth (Wildwood, Mo./Lafayette) took over in the circle for Northwestern to begin the bottom of the fourth, and the first batter hit a solo home run before a two-out run-scoring double made NU's deficit 8-1.

Northwestern got two runs back in the top of the fifth. Allard led off with a single, moved to second on a wild pitch and to third on a Mari Majam (Pine Valley, Calif./Mountain Empire) groundout. Monka then grounded out to first, but Allard was able to scamper home on the play. Bast then unloaded a solo home run to make it an 8-3 game. Bast's shot was her Big Ten-best 12th of the season and the 17th of her career.

A leadoff Indiana walk in the sixth followed by a double put runners at second and third with no outs and led to Sammy Albanese (Belmont, Calif./Castilleja) entering the circle in relief. The next batter singled into left to drive one home, but Majam threw through to Paige Tonz (Peoria, Ariz./Centennial) at the plate to nail the trail runner. Two more runs would eventually come home, however, to end the game early.

Bast's two-hit, two RBI game gave her 51 RBIs on the season, a total which ranks fifth in NU single-season history. Allard also had a two-hit day at the plate, scoring twice and stealing a base.

Letourneau (9-8) took the loss, allowing six runs on four hits and five walks with two strikeouts in 3.0 innings of work. Lamberth threw 2.0 innings, giving up three runs on three hits and two walks with a K, and Albanese tossed two-thirds of an inning, allowing two runs on three hits with a K.

Northwestern returns to action at 4 p.m. CT Tuesday, April 24, in a nonconference contest at Loyola (Chicago) in the Rogers Park neighborhood of Chicago.
