    Jill Nesbitt and Jenni Beseres Sweep Big Ten Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week Honors

    EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern softball players Jill Nesbitt (Los Altos Hills, Calif./Archbishop Mitty) and Jenni Beseres (Golden Valley, Minn./Armstrong) swept Big Ten Player and Pitcher of the Week awards, respectively, it was announced today by the conference office. Nesbitt hit .583 (7-for-12) last week with three RBIs, a double and three runs scored as NU won four of five games. In the three-game series with Indiana, she was 6-for-7 (.857) with three runs and all three RBIs. She also collected 25 putouts at first base for the week, extending her streak of games without an error to 43 games. She now has 228-consecutive chances without an error.

    Beseres threw 13 shutout innings of one-hit relief over four games last week, earning a win and a save. She threw three innings of relief in a 1-0 loss to Loyola-Chicago on Thursday. Beseres picked up her first save of the season with three hitless innings in a 6-0 win over Indiana in the first game of a Saturday doubleheader. In Saturday's second game, she picked up the win with six additional hitless innings in relief. Northwestern, 22-9 overall and tied for second place in the Big Ten at 5-1, is off to its best start since 1987. They started 41-9 that year en route to the College World Series.
