EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern freshman goalkeeper Jenna Hascher (Stamford, Conn./Convent of the Sacred Heart) has been named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week and Co-Freshman of the Week, the conference announced today.

Hascher had a stellar week in net for the Wildcats as she posted shutouts in a 0-0 tie with Western Michigan and 2-0 victory over Oakland to wrap up nonconference play. She saved a career-high seven shots against the Broncos and stopped two vs. the Golden Grizzlies.

The NU keeper has shut out her last three opponents as the Wildcats also defeated Dartmouth on Sept. 8, marking the first time Northwestern has had three-straight shutouts since 2007. Hascher has not allowed a goal since Sept. 5 and is currently on a shutout streak of more than 356 minutes.

Hascher has played seven matches this year, starting five, and has allowed just three goals so far this season for a goals-against average of 0.48, which ranks fifth in the Big Ten.

Hascher shares the Freshman of the Week honor with Rose Lavelle from Wisconsin.

Northwestern wrapped up the nonconference portion of its schedule Sunday with a 2-0 win over Oakland, extending its unbeaten streak to three matches (2-0-1). The Wildcats now open the Big Ten schedule this Friday on the road at the defending conference champions, Penn State.
