Northwestern Weekly Game Notes
Northwestern opens Big Ten Conference play Sunday when it heads to Nebraska for a noon CT match. Not only is the game the conference opener for the Wildcats, it also marks the first Big Ten competition for the Cornhuskers in any sport.
Scouting the Cornhuskers
Nebraska enters the weekend with a 3-3-1 record after splitting a pair of matches against ranked opponents last week. The Huskers defeated No. 25 Wake Forest before falling, 2-1 in overtime, to No. 18 Virginia Tech. Nebraska has outscored its opponents on the season, 23-12, and is averaging 3.29 goals scored per game. Morgan Marlborough leads the team with 21 points (nine goals, three assists), while Jordan Jackson has scored 16 points (six goals, four assists). Goalkeeper Emma Stevens has started all seven matches and holds a 1.50 goals against average with one shutout on the year.
Northwestern trails in the all-time series between the two schools, 1-2-0, although the 'Cats claimed a 4-3 victory in the last meeting back in 2008. NU has lost both its previous matches in Lincoln.
Last Time Out
Senior Caroline Dagley sparked the Northwestern offense to life with a 52nd minute game-winning goal in a 3-0 win over Loyola (Chicago) Wednesday night. Dagley later added an assist on a goal by Jill Dunn, while Kate Allen also had a goal and an assist in the match. It was the fourth goal of the season for Allen, with all of them coming in Northwestern's last four matches. Goalkeeper Anna Cassell posted her first career shutout in earning the first victory of her collegiate career.
